Day 52

Our AM Rock Star was Skylar Faye Lum. Her dad and older brother Jude came up with her name. Her mom was so excited she was finally having a girl, she couldn't think of any names that would be perfect for her. One day Skylar's brother told her dad he liked the name Skylar after hearing it in a game and her dad fell in love . He told her mom her name had to be Skylar. Her middle name is Faye after my great grandma Faye Lum, she was my gong gongs first love (gong gong is grandpa is Chinese!) Her mom wanted Aurora, Ephi or Juniper. Skylar's mom says the moment she came into the world she looked at her face and knew her name was Skylar. Skylar comes from the name Schuyler which means Scholar in Dutch. I was born to be smart.

In the afternoon our Rock Star was Stephanie Verna Klinger. My Mom and Dad chose Stephanie as it wasn't too popular and was a classic name. If she was a boy she would have been Henry. Her dad joked that she would be Helmut, a traditional German name as her Opa is from Germany. Her middle name, Verna, is named after her great-grandma on her mom's side. Stephanie is a Greek name meaning crown

We have been working on our names.  Our investigation today was to find our name in the word search.  When Mrs. Hellyer printed off our morning word searches somehow some of the names were erased making it hard to find our names...haha.  We were also challenged to find our friends names. We will try this activity again tomorrow.

Today we learned about the letter Cc

Day 51

This morning our Rock Star was Easton Brodie Goodhand. His family loves country music and was named after Easton Corbin.  Here is a fun fact about Easton, he was born on Easter weekend and a friend pointed out the similarity in his name.  Easton means East Town.

In the afternoon our Rock Star was Charles Timothy Alexander H---. Charles was chosen as a name that was easy to read/pronounce but (ideally) not too common. Mom and Dad also liked that Charles easily lends itself to nicknames (Charlie, Chuck, Chaz). Growing up his mom and dad had lots of kids with their names. Timothy is a family name (as shared with Charles’ Great Grandfather). Alexander was a unique name mom and dad liked. Charles means “man” or “army/warrior” or “king”.

Rockin' Room 136 celebrated Children's Day by wearing blue.

To finish off our Kindness week we coloured and cut out hands with our names on it to make one large Kindergarten piece of artwork for our bulletin board in the hallway.

The large heart turned out a little wonky but we like it anyways. :)

We also finished our letter Nn study by drawing the airplane that make a loud nnnnnnnnnnnnn sound.

We had a BLAST at centers today as we built towers together using lots of different materials.

Have a great long weekend!  Tomorrow us Kinder teachers will be taking some courses with the rest of the school AND switching up our centers.  Stay tuned for some VERY excited kids on Monday as they see what we have created for the next month.

Day 50

This morning our Rock Star was Zailey Kathryne Ava Paterson. When her mom and dad found out they were going to have a baby, they new she would be special and unique.  Her mom even knew what her name would be the day she found out she was having a baby, BUT they didn’t know if she was a girl or boy.  Her mom and dad loved the name Zailey and knew it was a special name and unique just for me, and no one else would have it. The morning she was born, and they saw her for the first time and knew they picked the most perfect name. Her middle name Kathryne is after her Nana. Zailey means: a wonderful girl, like an angel with a good kind heart.

This afternoon our Rock Star was Tristan Vitou Num. His mom and dad chose the name Tristan because they both wanted a name that started with the letter Tt just like his big brother and they both loved the name Tristan. Tristan means a Knight.

Our Investigation today was finishing up our Kindness Superhero page.  Each child chose their superhero, then they coloured, cut and glued their superhero onto their page.

For our Kindness Project we made a video to share with the school showcasing all the ways that Kindergarten friends are kind. If you would like to see the video it has been uploaded into our Google Classroom.

Our Power UP today was Math.  We learned how to represent the number 2.
