Day 80

Our morning Rock Star was Jack. Here he is with his Great Taids Binoculars from the Second World War. Taid (pronounced Tide) means Grandad in North Wales, he was his Grammy's Dad. His Papa and Jack used to sit out on the seafront for hours building sand castles and watching all the whales, seals, birds and boats going by using these. Papa gave Jack these very old and very special binoculars for his 5th birthday as a reminder of all the time they spent together!

In the afternoon our Rock Star was Madison. A tradition they celebrate every year is Vietnamese/Chinese New Year. The New year starts at the new moon after winter solstice and end on a full moon 15 days after. Usually end of January and beginning of February on western calendar. During the new year we visit families, we have special meals, and we give out red envelopes with money. We also wear red for good luck, good health and prosperity for future and coming years. Madison loves this tradition because she gets red envelopes from aunts and uncles, gradmas and grandpas.

Today we read The Most Magnificent Thing. This book was all about a little girl who was trying to make something that was extra special. She had to persevere and try and try and try over and over again before she invented something truly magnificent. During the process she got upset and mad and frustrated, she even quit once - but she kept trying. We talked about how cool it would be to make something fantastic. As a group we brainstormed what we wish we could make.

Now that we know most of our letters and sounds we are trying to hear all the sounds in the words to make a sentence that matches the topic.

Please read this message from the principal regarding Valentines Day:
Due to Covid-19, we are asking that students do NOT bring in Valentine’s Day cards or treats for their classmates. We know that this is a tradition that many students enjoy, but we also want to minimize risk of transmission.  As our Character Virtue for February is Love, teachers will be celebrating Valentine Day’s day with related activities that promote kindness and caring for others.
