Day 57

Today we focused a little more on the humble wolf.  Our journal writing was about how to compliment our friends.

Tomorrow is our last day to bring in food items for the food bank.  Currently here are the top 5 classes.  On Friday we are having the pie-in-the-face assembly.  If we come in 1st I will make sure that both classes get to put a pie in my face.  The AM class will get to watch during the assembly BUT the PM class will get to do it on Monday afternoon.  If you have not yet brought in an item we are super close.

5th - 285

4th - 377

3rd - 401 (this is us!!)

2nd - 412

1st - 426

Tomorrow is the first day of December.  During the first few weeks we will be focusing on winter art, subitizing (recognizing numbers at a glance in various forms such as ten frames, tally marks, dice etc) and writing our name properly with upper and lower case letters.

Just a friendly reminder that Kindergarten was hit hard during November with illness.  In Kindergarten we share everything.  If you know that your child is maybe displaying any forms of illness please keep them home so that we don't spread anything new in our classroom.

Day 53

We have been busy in the classroom preparing our Visual Journals and walls for you.  However, with conferences online you will be unable to see our journals.  I will figure out a way to get those to you in a virtual way. I am attaching some photos of our artwork to share with you.

In your child's backpack, you will see an important envelope full of learning goodies.  This will give you a great example of what is happening in our classroom right now.  During our conferences, I will be referring to all the papers inside the envelope.  If you haven't had a chance to look please take a moment to peak at the work.

We are in full swing with our calendar, rock star and our welcome message.  The daily message is where we are working on our sight words. In the calendar, we focus on math and the rock star is our Social Studies curriculum.

Day 52

Update on our veterans Food Bank School Race:

Well, we are still in third place but we are falling behind.  We currently have 199 food items.  Second place has 247, and third place has 261!!  We have more time before it is over so please keep bringing in some items.

Parent conferences:

If you have not already signed up for conferences please go online and sign up for a time that works best for you.  If you are having trouble getting online just give the office a call and they will help you out.  Currently, I see about half the kids have signed up for conferences.  Just a reminder that there is no school on Thursday and Friday. Once you are signed up you should get an email with a link, just click on that link when it is time for your conference and I will let you into the room.

Orange Shirt Day Assembly:

On Tuesday AM Kindergarten will be leading our assembly.  During this assembly, we will be performing a song.  We have been working hard on it during class time but if you can practice at home that would be very helpful.  Also please remember to be wearing your Orange Shirt on Nov 29. Thankful Song

Day 51

WELCOME BACK TO MANY OF OUR FRIENDS!!!! I am very very happy to see so many of our friends back happy and healthy, I missed you all.  For our still-recovering friends, just know that I can't wait to see you too.  I hope you all rest up and join us once you are able.

Today with so many new friends back I spent a lot of time catching them up on the missing assessments for the package that I am sending home on Monday.  Everyone did a journal entry today that will also go in the package for you.

In PE we were lucky because our PE teacher was in for Mrs. Hughes so she took both the AM and PM kids for an extra special PE class doing drum fit!!  Tomorrow our AM class gets to do a double music class with Ms. Lysak as they prepare a special art piece for the month of December.

As far as I know, we are still in 3rd place for our Food Drive.  We are currently sitting at 195 items which is fantastic but on Friday 1st place was at 209 items.  I know we are close but we need to keep pushing!!!

Parent Conferences are this Thursday and Friday, due to the level of illness in the building they are now online.  If you are unable to log on to book please call the office and they will help you.

Day 50!

Happy Day 50!  I am so happy that Mrs. Hughes is back today.  Today we both had smaller classes so we spent time together as one big class.  We continued to work on the package that is going home next week.

In awesome news it was announced that as of this morning we are officially in third place in the food drive but we will all need to work together to knock out first and second place. We are sitting at 180 items.  Second place is 201 items and first place is 209.

I hope that everyone rests up this weekend and is able to join us again on Monday.  I have missed you all.

Have a great weekend!!!!

Day 49

Well, today we came a little closer to the top 3 classes for the food drive.  We are either in third or second depending on how many items the other classes got today.  LET'S KEEP GOING!!!  I will be stopping at Costco this weekend to help, but if you haven't already had a chance to bring something in, please send it.  We have filled up one box already!!!

Today we were pattern ninjas again and did SO MUCH BETTER the second time.  I am very impressed with all my Kinder friends working hard to pay attention to the special code.

I am currently in the middle of making a big package for you.  In this package, I will have all the information that I will be talking about during the conferences including the EYE-TA report.  Since the conferences are now online I will send home the package with your child on Wednesday. I have one last student example I want to add next week.

Day 48

Today the office made an announcement of the top 3 classrooms with the highest number of canned food goods.  The first-place classroom has 169 items.  The second-place classroom has 155 items.  The third-place classroom has 115.  We have 108 items so I am guessing that we are close but there is still time to get those food items in.  The food drive is going on for another week.

Today we worked on patterns.  We had to follow the secret code and colour the pattern based on the code we were given.  It was tricky but after a few tries, we really rocked it!

Day 47

On Tuesday, November 29, Kindergartens will be leading the school in an assembly on being number.  We will also be kick-starting the school-wide action plan. In December we will be focusing on Warm Feet for the Street. There will be more information sent later but this is my most favourite school-wide activity that we do. Today we worked on our Kindergarten Acknowledgement of the Land. Once it is all done I will post pieces of it but for now, we are off to an amazing start.

In the afternoon we noticed that our food donation box was getting pretty full so together we put the food into groups of 10 to count them. Altogether so far we have 100 items!!! Let's keep going.

Day 46

 Welcome Back Mrs. Hellyer!!!

Today I was happy to be back with my Kinder friends.  This is a friendly reminder to PLEASE keep your child home if they are feeling unwell.  In Kindergarten we share everything including illness and keeping your little Kinder friend home when sick is the best way to stop the spread.

Today we had a little catch-up day.  The AM class learned about the letter Ee.  Anyone who missed our poppy painting was able to finish it.  The PM class also learned about the letter Ee and did a beautiful watercolour painting with a poppy silhouette. Both classes played with the balls and scoops in PE class.

On Thursday, everyone in the school went live on Powerschool.  Sadly I was not feeling well and was unable to put all the marks into the system on time. Now that I am feeling better I was able to update your child's marks on Powerschool during my lunch break.  I am sorry for being late however you can find your child's updated marks on Powerschool.

We are still collecting food for the food bank.  The class is eager to watch me get a pie in the face for having the most food collected.  If you are able can you please donate non-perishable food for our class race?

Thursday, November 10, 2022

Hello Mrs. Hughes here to update you on our week.  Mrs. Hellyer has stayed home quite sick this week   We have missed her and are looking forward to her return next week.

We work to help limit the spread of illness in the classrooms, lots of hand-washing, teaching proper coughing and sneezing etiquette, cleaning tabletops etc.  We appreciate you also keeping your children home when they are ill.  This makes a huge impact on keeping us all healthy and limiting sickness in kindergarten.  We very much appreciate your support on this.

This week was all about Peace and the letters Cc/Kk.

Here is the C/K song!

The AM students attended the Remembrance Day Assembly.  This was a very different assembly, it was serious and quiet.  The choir was wonderful and the kinders did a great job being respectful.

We are looking for some environmental print for our classroom and are asking you to help us collect some.  What is environmental print? It is print that is found in the world around us. Please help your child collect a couple of samples of environmental print from around your house.  Some examples might be the front of a cereal box, the label from a can or the smarties box.  Please make sure the sample is clean and flat (it may need to be cut before coming into school.  We will use these pieces to create a classroom bulletin board.

Thank you for your support

Fun Friday's started off with iPads and ended with a guided drawing of poppies.  In between, we had PE, recess, painted with watercolour and played with centers.

Next week we are in a race to have the most food items for the food bank.  If our class wins Mrs. Hellyer will get a pie in the face by one of our students.

Day 40

Today we read the story, The Tiny Seed.  We glued a pumpkin seed into our visual journal and then made a prediction of what we thought it could turn into.

Today in our journal we wrote about a moment when we were honest even when it was hard.

Day 38

Today was a very calm and relaxing day.  We did some painting, puzzles, printing the letter N.  In the morning our Kinders had music and in the afternoon our Kinders had library. The morning crew went outside for recess but we kept the PM crew inside.

Just a friendly reminder that tomorrow is Orange Shirt Day.  We will have an assembly to kick off our month of honesty.
