 Happy Friday!

Today we began our day with Fun Friday IPads.  There was a choice of three APs that focus on proper letter formation and word building.

Our learning job connected Fall with fine motor for some tear art.

We read, Room on the Broom.  Ask your child to retell you the story.

See the Principal Message Below.  There is some important information for kinders in here.  Did you know that Mr. Murphy puts an admin message each week? Lots of important info can be found in it!

**Kindergarten students will each receive 1 free NBS Orange Shirt, these have already been ordered and will be distributed when they come in***

Dear NBS Families,

We had another week of field trips and community walks, which is another great sign of things being back to normal. The sight of the yellow buses in front of the school with the sounds of the excited students heading out for an adventure is a welcome sight after missing out on these during Covid. The weather once again set classes up for great days at the Leighton Art Centre, downtown at 2School and to walk through the community to explore and journal in a variety of Sit Spots.

Our Scholastic Book Fair was once again a big success thanks to the efforts of our parent volunteers and Mrs. Gall. It is great to see so many new books going home with students and who knows someday in the future they may end up back in one of our Used Book Sales.

Great Pumpkin Event

New Brighton School will be hosting our second annual Great Pumpkin Event this year! It will take place Monday, October 31st. For this event, students and their families are encouraged to decorate a pumpkin to be displayed in our school gathering space. All pumpkins will be judged; in one of the following categories: scariest, funniest, scene, “it’s not a pumpkin” pumpkin and lastly decorated, not carved. Students can bring their pumpkins to the front door of the school to be put on display for all to see the wonderful artistry! Monday classes will come out to view and judge them throughout the day. We would ask that all pumpkins be taken home after school on Monday. Any pumpkins remaining after school will be thrown out to prevent any messes/odours that may grow over time. This event is intended to have families spend some time together at home in a fun and imaginative tradition. Start thinking of all the ways you and your family can carve a “Great” pumpkin.

Halloween

On October 31st, we will be having a Costume & Pajama Day at school. Students will be engaged in their regular learning activities, including music and physical education, so we ask that their attire does not restrict their movement or vision. In addition, any costume items that include weapons should be kept at home where they can be used for their evening Trick or Treating activities.

No Supervision After 3:15

Our front office has become very busy after school with students waiting to be picked up after 3:15 dismissal. Many are waiting outside and then come inside when their pick-up person does not arrive at their designated spot. This is what we encourage our students to do; however, many of our students are waiting for siblings coming from other schools that dismiss after our school hours. We are not able to supervise students after school hours and are to be used in an emergency situation only when caregivers cannot get here on rare occasions.

It is very important to have someone at a designated meeting spot for 3:15 pick-up times. All students in grades 1-5 are dismissed from their exit doors and go immediately to the meeting spots that they have identified with their families. Kindergarten remains the only age group where teachers will wait for a parent to arrive before dismissing students.

Remembrance Day Assembly

We are excited to share with you that this year’s Remembrance Day Assembly will be taking place in person in the school’s gym.

We will be doing this assembly at two different times to accommodate all of our students and parents or special guests that are attending this assembly.  The assembly will be exactly the same at both times and students such as the choir students, Grade 2 speakers, wreath carriers and MC’s will be the same for both assemblies. The first assembly will take place at 9:30am for Division 1 (our Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2 and 3 students) and our second assembly will take place at 10:45am for Division 2 (Grade 4 and 5 students).

We are asking that if you attend this assembly to please arrive on time so that there are no interruptions once the assembly has started.  Parking may be a challenge that morning, so you may want to arrive a little before the assembly starts.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me at jclysak@cbe.ab.ca

Thank you,

Ms. Lysak

Parent Resources Supporting the Literacy and Mathematics Frameworks

To help families get to know the Literacy and Mathematics Frameworks, a series of resources are being developed. Two parent resources - mathematics and literacy (oral language) - are currently available to share with families to develop an understanding of how the frameworks are embedded in students' learning experiences at school. Please ensure teachers are aware of these resources on the CBE website.

Lunchroom Registration

As a friendly reminder, we offer a lunch hour supervision for all grade 1-5 students to stay at school and have their lunch. If your child is staying for this program, we do need you to log into your MyCBE account and register them for the 4 day Lunch Supervision. If your child is NOT staying and will be going home, we do require you to email the office and let us know. Please send your email ONLY IF YOUR CHILD IS GOING HOME to newbrghton@cbe.ab.ca, if you have not already done so.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to give us a call.
