Day 125

Happiest Birthday to our friend Easton!!! We are so happy that we were able to be together on your birthday to celebrate with you.  We hope that the rest of your day was as fun as our time together!

We are starting a new round of Rock Star Share!  This round is all about nature and where we feel most connected.  We will be making a video of all the children's favourite places of nature and let them share in the video about where they are connected and why.

This afternoon our Rock Star was Valkryie.  Valkyrie shared:

Where is this place?
Our family ranch in Maycroft, southern Alberta, where the foothills begin, literally at the base of the Rocky Mountains. South of Calgary, near the Crowsnest Pass.

Why is it special for you?
It’s where my Mina (Celtic word from grandma) lives with her dog Charlie, three cats, and three horses, and where my mom grew up. It’s beautiful there and is highly geologically and archeologically significant. It’s designated as North America’s last pristine mountaine ecosystem and there are Sundance circles and other teepee rings, sweat lodge remnants, dinosaur, ocean plant and creature fossils, glacier rocks, and other interesting rock formations that scientists like to study.

What are some of your favourite things to do in this space?
I like to pet the horses, go for walks, swim in the Oldman River that surrounds the ranch in the summer, and sled and skate on it in the winter, and look for treasures like fossils and arrowheads. I love spending time with my cousins, aunts and uncles (my mom’s two younger brothers), and of course, my Mina and her dog, Charlie. We like to visit my Grandad’s resting place overlooking the river on our walks. He passed away last May. He taught me and my big brother a lot about the natural history of the ranch and surrounding areas.

In the AM class we have a new friend Ms. Leanne in our class.  She will be in our class from Mondays to Thursdays. We are so very happy to have Ms. Leanne join us!!!!

Today we worked extra hard on our journals. We also had an extra long sharing circle with our friends.  It was awesome to hear about our friends and how they spent their week.
